With lights on, a ghost is playing with my door locks?

Hey guys,

new issue. I can drive the 92 rs all day long with no issues. When I turn the headlights on, I get the occasional lock-unlock-lock toggling of the electric door locks. Only thing I can guess is that the backlighting on the shift selector is somehow shorting out.

Only problem with this theory is that I'm unsure where the 'trigger' is for the doors to lock when the car is shifted to drive. The theory only makes sense if the signal to lock the doors comes from the shifter area and the backlighting is shorting out in there somewhere. If it's down on the tranny somewhere, then it doesn't make sense.

Any suggestions?

The nuetral safety switch is what triggers the doors to lock when you shift out of park/nuetral. Do you have an aftermarket alarm? My Buddy's 87 IROC did the same thing, but it would do it with the car turned off. He didn't care about power locks so we just disconnected to switches in the door and it quit doing it.

Yeah, there's a viper alarm system on the car. Where's the neutral safety switch located?

On the shifter in the console.

Re: With lights on, a ghost is playing with my door locks?

Thanks. I'll pull it apart this weekend.

Can I just disable the door locking via the neutral safety switch? I like having the 'keyless entry' via the remote so I'd like for that to still function. But I don't care if the doors lock when I put the car into gear. I don't have kids riding with me... and if some other passenger falls out because they open the door, well, that's just Darwin doin' his thang.
