speedo swap questions!

I may be swapping my tranny out with one from a 89 or 90 iroc, both 700r4. My car is a 86 with cable speedo, i also may get the dash cluster for this car, and it has a electronic speedo. would i be able to swap the electric set into my car? whats all involved with wiring and such?

The swap of clusters from 86 to 90 would be difficult because the two are shaped much differently and because the 86 speedo is mechanical and the 90 electric as you suggest. (BTW, if the the donor car is an 89, the cluster will be the same as your 86).

Your best bet is to simply swap the speedo sleeve and driven (and perhaps drive) gears from your 86 into the 90 to keep the speedo accurate. The same would be true of the 89.

Re: speedo swap questions!

it must be a 8, the cluster is the same shape from what i can see. i want to change the whole speedo system to electrical since if i ever put another tranny in it will be a newer one also, so i dont have to worry about changing too much over, kinks in the cable or anything like that

82-89 speedos are all mechanical, 90+ electronic. The only way to go electric, as far as I know, would be to swap the entire dash or to swap in after market gauges.
