To All 1986 IROC-Z Owners, I got just 1 simple question.

Can someone help me please? My fuel gage meter doesn't work. It is stuck at half tank even when the tank is full. My question is, when you turn off your 86, does the gage drop down to empty, or does it stay at the actual level of the gas in the tank? Im trying to figure out if the meter is bad or the sending unit. Thanks.

So then chances are that the gage is bad.

Okay. Well before I go and drop the steering column to remove my cluster, what kind of sending unit do I buy? Electrical perhaps? What size is the fuel gage meter as in diameter?

Chevy86, have you considered trying to just free-up the needle when you pull it out? I use a guy who restores fuel tanks and he is able to rebuild older-style sending units with all the copper wrappings. Don't know how your gauge moves the needle, but maybe it's just dirty/tired and can be saved?

Not suggesting it be sent to my guy or someone, just that it may be salvageable (sic)

Im going to pull out my cluster to see if it's stuck. when I break the needle free, or atleast get it to go all the way down when I turn off the Camaro, I hit the message board to let you know what happens. I get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks.
