Hello and help!

Hi guys, just joined up. I'm in the UK and have just purchased a 1990 convertible Camaro Z28. Nice car but I'm stuck with a couple of problems.

The main issue is that the tailgate will latch but not "suck" down properly. this means I can't put the roof down cos the tonneau fouls on the trunk lid not sitting properly!

Checked fuses under the dash, the one marked "tail" (20A) is fine. Took the trim out from inside the trunk and disconnected the plug from the contact plate. Cleaned and dried contacts - no different. Pushed the latch down manually and it clicked. Used the key in the trunk lock and it sprang back up.

Don't know how to check if I have a motor or relay problem.

Possibly related. Noticed that the interior trunk light doesn't work. Checked supply to the copper bulb mount and have 12volts. Bulb doesn't light. Checked bulb across battery, bulb fine. Without the bulb in I get 12volt reading, as soon as I put the bulb in, no light and no reading! High level stop light on trunk doesn't come on - again fuse seems fine (haven't checked the bulb on this yet).

Sorry for the long post but I wondered if anyone here is an expert or has done this before. Are these issues related and how to I check what's the exact problem with the trunk latch?

Thanks in advance, Jon

The reason you have 12 volts with the bulb removed is you are reading thru circuits, however not directly to the battery therefore the bulb won’t illuminate.

The TAIL fuse has nothing to do with the trunk pull-down.

The LID fuse passes power to that unit.

Using a test light, not a voltmeter, see if there is power on the input of the unit (
DARK BLUE wire).

Happy Racing!

When you see fog or “running” lights on in good weather beware. Low performance driver ahead.

How bout those nitwits too scared to drive without headlights in the daytime and the nitwits that need headlights for a little rain
