ECM/VATS delete

Guys i have a 1989 GTA electric speedo dash and wiring harness i want to put in my 1982 T/A cable speedo car. My car is old school carbed 383 with no ECM or pollution systems. The 1989 GTA dash has ECM/VATS.

Can I do a dash swap and just remove the ECM/Vats from the 1989 GTA dash?
I have read here and http://www.hioutput.com/tech/speedo.html on how to make the gauge cluster work in my 1982 but i need to know if using this ECM/VATS equipped 1989 dash will work without the ECM/VATS plugged in.

Re: ECM/VATS delete

The VATS doesnt do anything except ground the start enable relay and send a signal to the ECM. Since you have no ECM to receive an "enable" signal and your car didnt have VATS to control the start enable relay, it sould be fine if you remove it.

You will have the "security" light on the new dash since it was VATS equipped. Id just pull the bulb since it will no longer serve a purpose.
