Speedo Tach Reverse lights not working

i bought 92 camaro rs december from a guy that put a 77 350 BM shift kit turbo 350 trans in. The speedo, tach and back up light do not work. He had reverse lights hooked up to toggle. They work like that but its stupid and lazy on his part. Any suggestions how to fix all this. Isnt the trans mechanical and the speedo digital. also i have an aftermarket tach but want everythine in dash to work. thanks.

The backup light switch is (unless the PO removed it) mounted on the right side of the shifter.

The colors responsible for the backup lights are
dark blue, and light green.

Because the speedo and tach don’t work find out if there’s power going to them.

If the needles move at all when you turn the key to RUN there probably is power.

Is there power to them?

ACDelco P/N D2234.

However it takes a connector and you said there are loose wires there.

You can try to get a connector, or if you’re good with a soldering iron you can do it that way.

For the tach see if the WHITE WIRE from the firewall is connecting to the distributor.
Because you’ve got a 77 distributor the terminal is usually above the vacuum advance connector.

If that looks OK make sure the signal gets to pin 7 WHITE WIRE on the dash connector located on the right side connector.

You can use a test light
(the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester) to probe for tach signal.

Then make sure the
black wire with a WHITE STRIPE goes to ground.

If those parameters are met your problem is in the dash.

It could be a cracked circuit trace or the electronics could be defective.

For the speedometer probe the output of the VSS with an audio amplifier to make sure it’s putting out a signal.

Connect the amp’s input to the output of the VSS as you would a CD player.

Ground to ground, the signal wire to the inner wire of the audio amplifier wire.

When driving, or simulating VIA having the car on a dyno, you will hear a hum which increases in pitch when the wheels are turning faster, if the VSS is good.
