Fuel pump killing my battery??????
Fuel pump killing my battery??????
Once in a while my fuel pump is not turning off right away......but for the last couple of nights or morning I should say the fuel gauge is way up to the top.....yesterday the car didnt start...No power.
I was wondering if mabey the pump was running all night or somthing.
I checked last night when I parked it and it was not running......but this morning the gauge was up there again however the car started fine.
Recenty I had the alarm taking out and somtimes it killed everything...but the guy had bypassed the ignition
could it be still some of the alarm stuff messing it up or more so fuel pump crap???????????

Re: Fuel pump killing my battery??????
It's possible for the fuel pump to run constantly. It has a direct connection from the battery through the Oil Pressure Sending Unit. The OPSU can go bad in such a way that it 'thinks' it's getting oil pressure all the time, when it's not actually. This will make the fuel pump run, regardless of the key (since it has a direct connection to the battery).
But I would not have any idea what any of it has to do with your fuel guage - that's a seperate circuit.
Also, it takes about 2 days for the fuel pump to drain the battery - I wouldn't think overnight it would kill the battery - but having it constantly run may have weakened the battery enough where it is not charging completely when you do drive it.
As a test, you can remove the fuse and see what happens for a few days. There is a fuse tucked in the fenderwell, behind the battery - it's in a small weatherpack. Remove that fuse when you park for ore than a few minutes, then replace it when you need to drive. Get your battery charged good, do the fuse thing for a few days, and see what happens. If this resolves the issue, then you know the OPSU is bad and needs replaced, about $35.
