they come on a little ahead on reverse but when you lock it in gear they turn off is there any way to adjust the spot they come on?

 

Yes - your neutral safety switch needs adjusted. Take off center console top, on the right side of the shifter you'll see it - two screws hold it down - loosen and slide the switch on the screws a tad one direction or the other until the lights are on in Reverse - you can have the key ON and move the shifter while adjusting to get it right. Make sure park brake is on. Then make sure you still start in PARK and NEUTRAL after adjusting the reverse lights (because the switch won't allow start unless it's set right).
