92 Firebird Wacky Headlights
92 Firebird Wacky Headlights
When I turn on the parking lights, my headlights also pop up (without actually lighting up.) Also the motors keep running for a good 10 seconds after my lights have popped up. This happens regardless if I turn on the headlights or parking lights.
I have a feeling it has something to do with the wiring, but I honestly have no knowledge of that kind of stuff. Has anyone else had this problem?

A little hard to see because it's in broad daylight, but the parking lights are indeed on.

Same issue here.
Ideas?
Mine is a 92 TA. When the parking lights are turned on the headlights pop up. After they are up they run for about 5 seconds. When they go down they run another 5 seconds.
They are always up if the parking lights are on!

Re: 92 Firebird Wacky Headlights
When I converted my 82 Trans Am to all 1990 electronics the headlamp motors which were also 88-92 motor started doing this a few weeks later. Then they couldn't lift the headlights without help.
This is the first sign the bushing have turned to dust. After I did the bushing replacement my motors stopped the running for 10 seconds and also stopped coming up when just the parking lights were tuned on.
Why they do that I have no idea, but my 90 corvette did the same thing as well when it's bushings went bad. However it's lights didn't rotate with the parking lights only on but the motor would also run 10 seconds after lights were turned on and off.

I had the same problem on my 92 gta. the bushing kit fixed the problem of the motors that keep running. As far as the lights popping up with the park lights it didn't fix that. What I found on my car is that it was the headlight switch. I replaced the switch now the headlights stay down with the parklights on. Hope this helps.

If you rebuild the headlight motors it will most likely fix your problem. Mine stopped popping up when the parking lights are on after the fix.
P.S. Pull the old set apart and then go to Advance Auto. They have the exact bushings you need in the "help" section.

Wait, really? I was about to order a bushing kit for my headlights but wasn't aware I could just go down to Advance and get what I need. I'm shocked. I don't have the parking light issue on my '89, but when I press "off," both my headlights SLAM down SUPER HARD trying to take the front bumper with them and the passenger side sometimes sticks or comes up and the motor continues to run making an awful racket for 5 seconds. I figured it was time for bushings. What do these look like at Advance?

Well, I just discovered TDS! I ordered 2 kits for both my headlights. Hoping this will fix them right up since the motors work fine. Thanks!
