VATS...Need some help
My key is stuck in the cylinder in the on position( won't return to off ) so i was having to turn my car off by unplugging the Dist wire and unplugging the battery...that was working for a while and then all the sudden it wont start at all when i turn the key....Did the VATS engage and lock me out? I have no clue as to how i can solve my problem or where to even start...i have power to all my accessories but doesnt sound like the fuel pump is even turning on when i plug the battery back in like it used to when i was unplugging it and plugging it back in....any suggestions on this? or am i just doomed to having a dead car? cuz if i am i have the biggest radio on the planet...and that doesn't get me to where i need to go...LOL

exnay on the fuel pump engaging, i hear it now when i plug the battery in, and also hear the injectors squirting fuel...so now what? Bad starter? starter relay? the starter was clicking a few times before i could get it to turn over when it would bump the starter, but now there is no bump...can i rule out the VATS now?

Re: VATS...Need some help
For the original problem - sounds like your ignition switch is bad (not the key cylinder, but the actual switch). They are not that expensive, and only takes about an hour to replace - it's on top of the steering column under the dash, you have to remove the bottom panel, remove the bottom panel brace, and remove the 2 bolts that hold the column up, letting the column drop some and hang there, so you can get to the switch.
What happens, is that there is a cable from the auto shifter that runs up to the ignition switch - if the car is not in PARK, then the cable won't release the switch and allow the rod tothe key cylinder to move to allow the switch to turn to off. Sounds like that cable is not actuating the switch/rod to the key cylinder.
If it were me, I'd see if I couldn't solve the REAL issue, and not apply another bandaid to the symptom of that problem.
