cooling fan probblem

we just switched over from the tpi to carb and we have the sensor hooked up between cyl 6 and 8 and the sensor plugged up on the manifold. i can tap into the fans and they work fine, i have tryed grounding the plugs that i plugged in and nothin happends. the car had sit for a while untill we got it, is there any sensors we are not hooking up? or a relay some where cuaseing it not to work? we bought both sensors new to put in the block and manifold. any help would be great
thanks!!

Re: cooling fan probblem

The primary fan is controlled by the ECM - you don't have an ECM anymore since you switched to carb, thus fan won't come on.

You might as well remove the coolant temp sender in/at the thermostat housing and toss it, it's doing nothing for you (and that's two more wires to get rid of).

You either need to use the stock wiring and relays and rig both fans to come on with the fan switch in the pass head, and change that switch to a lower temp switch (that one is set to not come on until 238 degrees), or get seperate fan controllers and just remove the stock wiring/relays altogether. I highly recommend the latter.

Re: cooling fan probblem

Oh - the secondary fan should come on if the wire to the fan switch is grounded, so that might be a relay issue with that.

And - forgot to say ... welcome to TGO!

I'm assuming you switched to an aftermarket carb not a factory carb. Did you also switch distributor to a vacuum advanced?

Need to update your sig/sidebar info so we know what year car, what engine, tranny, etc.

Re: cooling fan probblem

Your temp gauge has a dark green wire with a single female spade terminal on it. Originally exited the harness that ran from driver side to pass side over the bellhousing, just about at the driver head rear, and came over the intake to the sender which was between #1 & #3 spark plug. So, maybe your new motor disn't get a sender installed in the driver head, or maybe you just need to find that wire and connect it.
