Please Help!
Please Help!
I have an 84 rs that had a 350 carbed. I was swapping my 355 tpi setup into it. I got everything all hooked up and i get nothing. All i get are the head lights, and the dash will light up. The windows wont even work, any idea what i might have done wrong or missed in the swap. I am not that good with electrical and have no clue where to start looking. If there is anyone that is local and willing to help i would appreciate it and pay for your time. I am in North East Ohio, any help is appreciated and thanks in advanced.
Thank you

Re: Please Help!
On the starter - every wire that runs to the starter connects to the larger starter terminal. ONLY the purple wire connects to the smaller terminal. There should be nthe pos battery cable as well as several fusible link wires that connect to the larger styarter terminal. Sounds like you don't have all the fusible links connected.

Everything goes to the large center terminal except the purple wire. It goes to one of the other two terminals on the sides (you'll have to try one, then try the other). Easiest way to tell which one - leave the purple wire unattached - connect all others to center terminal. Then take a chunk of nice size wire (10ga), hold to batt + and touch one terminal - if starter turns thern that's where the purple wire goes.

You need to clean them, or peel back the plastic loom far enough to see the colors - one of them has to be purple (unless someone replaced it with another color).
If you think the 'purple one' has been replaced with another color, then you'll need a ohm meter - inside the car, at the neutral safety switch, there should be the purple wire, attach one ohm meter lead to that, and test the other wires at the starter until you find it, then mark it so you know which is which. The 'purple' wire has to be off on it's own on one or the other smaller terminals, and all the rest on the large center terminal. Like I said above, you can test which smaller terminal is the right one by applying 12v+ to it - with the pos battery cable connected to the center terminal, the side terminal that makes the starter turn when 12v+ is applied is where the 'purple wire' goes.

Re: Please Help!
I looked - I have an old starter that has same terminals as yours.
Should be the 'purple wire' goes to the terminal on the LEFT of the large center terminal.
All others should go to the large terminal. It might wotk if you put the other non-purple wires to the other smaller terminal, I just don't know.
The smaller terminals should be labelled on the starter like little raised letters in the plastic - one with a "S", the other with a "B" -the famous 'purple' wire needs to go to the "S" terminal by itself.

Re: Please Help!
OK - I'm wrong on one note ...
That smaller terminal (not the one marked "S") - that was used ion older cars to feed current during ignition to the old coil on a points-type ignition system. It will NOT have 12v always, and so ALL your wires (except the purple one) HAVE to go to the big center terminal. You might have to cut off connectors and crimp on a larger one so it fits the large terminal.
That second small terminal (the one NOT used) will either be marked "B", "R", or sometimes "I". Here's a diagram I found online: http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/atta...chmentid=27391

Re: Please Help!
Ok so new problem. If I have the ignition on when I turn the lights on or turn signal it must short something out because I loose all power again. No lights, guages or fans. But the buzzer still goes off when I open the door. So I disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes and hook it back up and I get the same thing. Anyone heard of this problem before?
