FIXED: Hatch Pull down unit
My first post on TGO!
I have a 1987 2.8L V6 RS, and when I manage to get free time I'm trying to fix all the quirks and problems.
Right now I'm working on the hatch pull down mechanism. The motor is stuck int he up position. So I've taken off the unit, and trying to see why it isn't showing any signs of life.
The unit has a black wire and a blue wire. I've tried hooking them up to the battery and I'm pushing the switch with a screwdriver to get it to go down and it isn't responding. Wasn't there something weird like the black is positive and blue is negative? If I remember reading correctly?
I also notice that the wiring diagrams I'm finding for the 88 - 92 Camaro's are different because of the hatch release (which mine doesn't have). I've attached a wiring diagram that I found here, this is the correct one for this year?

Re: Hatch Pull down unit
The hatch extend relay has to be in the circuit for it to work I think - that relay switches 12v from the "up" side to the "down" side of the motor (if that makes sense). If you have the unit out of the car, you won't get it to work, as that relay is still in the car.

Re: FIXED: Hatch Pull down unit
Fixed it:
1.) I fixed the wiring
2.) I went to a pick-a-part and got this off of an '80's Firebird since mine disintegrated.
3.) I ordered this from online for like $12.00 including shipping.
4.) Got some Skill saw lubricant from Home Depot
I just wanna sit there and open and close it and admire how I don't have to slam it closed.
