no gauge lights!

hey guys I have a 1985 Trans am still factory for the most part. The other day i installed some strobes in the tailights, they were a complete seperate unit. I didnt hack into any wireing in the car. but to day i was leaving for work and i hit the headlight switch and the head lights popped up and the parking lamps came on but there was no gauge lights. i have never had any problems before.

I looked at the fuses today when i got home and the Tails fuse was melted i mean mealted. but i threw in a 25 to make it up to autozone to get fuses and they still dont come on. any idea of what could have happend or what did happen. Also all other lights work. (interior, overhead, and outside lights) Any help would be great.

Also what does the tails fuse control besides taillights?

no but i did hook the power wire into the center console light as a quick test. So i went up to autozone and got fuses and a replacement headlight and park lamp switch.

Re: no gauge lights!

ok update.. i found out that i had a set of aftermarket fog lights hooked into the wiring for the side marker lights, im guessing this is what melted the fuse. I just put in the new headlight switch this morning and still nothing. I found the funky foglight wireing on Wednesday and cut the wire as soon as i saw it. Ive been reading diffrent forums on here and they say it could be the dimmer switch.

I know there are 2 of them but one is under the the sterring column in that wiring and one is behind the dimmer roller? any help will be greatly appreciated.

The one on the headlight switch dims the cluster, the one at the base of the column dims the headlights.
