OMG. Radiator fan wiring problems. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG. Radiator fan wiring problems. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
Since I got my '86 Trans Am, I've had problems with my radiator fan. It has been jimmy rigged so much. People have ran wires directly into the fusebox wrapped around the fuse itself. Then taped the wires, and I had to use a switch to turn it on and off. At one point it was wrapped around the battery terminal itself to power it.
Today, the fuses burned out again, wires caught on fire, and the switch blew out. It is a real mess. So basically, it needs to be done from scratch.
Can anyone tell me the correct way how to rewire the fan? Does anyone have any diagrams that make sense? I don't mind having to use a switch if I have to. Any help is much appreciated.

The easiest way imho is to just buy a thermal fan switch. You can get them at most, if not all auto parts stores, and online. They come with directions and are easy to install for the most part.

I agree - get an aftermarket seperate fan controller. They range from $40 to over $100, depending on bells & whistles. I run a Flex-a-lite controller, $90 with all the options, and it's been really great - best $ I ever spent. Fully adjustable on/off temps, probes radiator fins for temp sensing, provisions for manual on/off switches, and initializes fan at 65% power so no huge immediate drain on electrical system. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

But if you need to save the cash, and wire something on your own for now, read my post #2 on this thread: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/cool...ctric-fan.html
