I picked up a first-generation Delco CD player the other day, and I can't seem to get the panel illumination to work. The LCD dimmer is operational, however. I took the unit apart and can't seem to find any obvious damage on the faceplate circuit boards. The bulb filaments appear to be intact, too. Since the illumination signal runs through the amplifier/power supply module, I tried another unit from a tape deck, but to no avail.

Attached below are a few pictures of the circuit boards. I circled the bulb locations and added arrows where they terminate in a row of header pins. The pins run to a connector on the back of the CD player, so they're probably for diagnostic purposes. I thought about applying voltage to these pins to see if the bulbs illuminate, but I'm wary of damaging something else.

Has anyone run into this issue before?

I solved the problem and figured I'd post the solution here to help anyone else.

My CD player came from a Cutlass Supreme, which is wired differently than an F-body. The panel illumination is applied through the steering wheel controls connector. Note the extra voltage and ground on connector C2 in the schematic below...
