Anti Theft?

Ok I know there is the answer to this somewhere, Ive spent hours searching through here and Im pulling my hair out of this. Here is my situation,

I Bought a 91 Firebird Formula 305 tpi with a 5 speed last year and spent up until 2 weeks ago rebuilding the front end of car (Salvage title) it always started right up and never gave me any problems what so ever. I even let it sit for a month and it still fired up no problem. I got it registered like 2 weeks ago and was enjoying the hell out of this bad boy. My Dad asked to me to get some parts for his car and I took my bird to get them, I stopped at a few places, in and out of them in like a 10 minute time frame. I come out from the last place and I go to start my car and nothing happens. I went down my check list of things that could have gone wrong, fuel pump is new, battery, alternator, fuses, all of it is new, wiring is also in almost stock form. Outside of being hit it isnt in bad condition. I pulled the negative battery cable off and let it sit for a minute and put it back on thinking it may reset something, that didnt work. I called my friend Randy over and he brought his obd tool over and it said that my anit theft had kicked on and its on active status. We called his buddy that used to work for GM way back in the day I think from 84 to 96 and he told us that it's in valet mode, cant push start it, cant take the battery off and reset that way, does anyone have a clue where this anit theft device is?
I know this may seem like such a simple fix but both me and my friend randy are stumped at where this little gizmo is at

Re: Anti Theft?

try taking a qtip dosed with rubbing achohol and clean the inside of the ignition switch and key where the chip is.dirt will cause it not to work.if that doesn't fix it.do what i did.go to a place that sells passkeys.have them read your key.go to radio shack and buy that[those] resisters.cut the wires and bypass the alarm part of the switch.

Re: Anti Theft?

Qd electrical cleaner from crc would work better for that route.

IMO break out a dmm and ohm your key, then solder aa set of resistors in eries to the circuit for VATS, no more vats disable. To me 3 bucks in resistors and 10 minutes of my time was well worth not being stranded again its a pain. People will **** and moan that its bad to disable it but lets face it, vats was awesome for its day. Gm has moved on to far better thing like passkey, and if youre reaaaaly concerned about "security" hit up DEI and get an alarm, go nuts with it get all the sensors you want people cant even walk past your car without it warning them if you want. A visual deterrents work better than our archaic antitheft.

Fact is if someone wants your stuff bad enough theyll get it. Vats or not

Just my 2cents

Re: Anti Theft?

Ok guys, thank you so much for that! After typing in VATS I found a bunch of things, I did just what you said with the resistors, clipped that orange wire and spliced the resistors in and she started right up! Never again will I be stuck in a k mart parking lot. As far as being secure with my car, my area is more ***** than anything else and Im one of the few 24 year olds that likes these types of cars so Im not too worried. Besides I think Ill put a kill switch in the car just in case, But again thank you so much for the help! From your suggestions and a video I found on youtube, this problem is fixed!
