Car: 1985 Firebird S/E
Engine: SBC 350, mild cam Vortec heads
Transmission: Rebuilt 700R4 vette servo+shift kit
Axle/Gears: 3.73
Made some progress

So I have had charging issues and have been working to figure out why. Today i pulled my relays for my cooling fans and presto my voltage was good. looking for opinions on the easiest fix here should i track down the issue or install an aftermarket cooling system?

Have your battery/alt tested. Fans draw alot of power, dual fans are generally 1/4-1/3 the total draw of a cars electrical system. Add in a stereo upgrade and the charging system isnt enough

If the alt and battery are fine, do a resistance test on the relays and fan wiring. A short can cause excess draw, also failing fan motors draw more and more current until they finally seize

well one fan is brand new and this follows over from an old post this is the 3rd new alt and 2nd new battery only issue i am trying to figure out now i put the fans back to factory wiring and my primary turns on as soon as i turn the key and the secondary doesn't go on at all secondary being the brand new one it appears there are 2 problems i need to figure out

Primary coming on with IGN suggests its been modified for the ECM/thermal switch to be permanently grounded. Unplug the thermal switch between the #6&#8 primaries and see if this stops. If it does, replace the switch, if not find where the wires are shorted/spliced to ground

Secondary fan doesnt come on until the AC is engaged. Your car will have to be running to test that because there is a redundant pressure switch for that

but what if i didn't use my ac then my car would over heat with the one fan as of right now there's no belt on my a/c compressor because the compressor clutch is messed up
