1985 trans am wont fully start.
1985 trans am wont fully start.
I have a 1985 trans am, 305 v8, fuel injected, that will not start. i had the battery charged yesterday, and the car turned over after spraying starter fluid into the throttle body, but only ran for about 3 seconds. i've asked around and it sounds like a fuel system issue, but since this is my first car im not sure where to locate the fuel pump relay switch, since i cant find it to check it it still leaves a possible electrical issue out there. also when i checked under the car (i know this isnt electrical) what looks like the cat converter air injection hose is completely torn in two pieces, not sure if that would cause this issue. again this is my first car, so go easy on me lol.

if it ran on starter fluid, then its just not getting fuel. is it the tpi or tbi fuel injection? are theyre any plugs just hanging loose under the hood? can you get a noid test light from a local auto parts store and see if the injectors are pulsing.

If your car is TunePortIjected, then you'll have a large aluminum intake with 8 injectors along the sides of it. If you have TrottlebodyBodyInjection, then you have a round black air cleaner on top of your engine and two injectors underneath it.
There are fuses for your injectors, I would suggest looking there first. Also grab a noid light, like travis siad, and touch the terminals of the noid light to the base of your injector's connector and have a helper crank the car for you. If the noid light blinks, then your injectors are getting a signal from the ECM to open, or "pulse". This means that you aren't getting any fuel versus your injectors being the issue.
You should be able to turn the key to run and listen carefully for the fuel pump priming the system. It should run for like 4 seconds then stop. It'll sound like a small buzzing type sound.

Well your fuseable links could be bad, or VATS is keeping it from starting. Stick a test light on the S-terminal of the starter, ground the other side and try to crank. Follow it back till you have power.
