Need help locating a connector/junction under or behind the dash

I've got a cigarette lighter in my '92 Z28 that is shorting out causing the fuse to blow, which also powers the power locks and mirrors. The wire insulation is melted and so the copper is touching itself between the orange hot wire and the black ground wire that goes to the lighter.

There's only one wire coming out of the fuse block which powers all three functions, so they have to junction somewhere. Do you know where they junction? I'm wanting to disconnect the wire from its power source and still maintain the power windows and mirrors.

I took a picture of a connector on a spare dash I have and was wondering if maybe this is what I'm looking for? Do you know if this is it, and if not, what should I be looking for?

I can get you schematics (but I suspect you already have those). Why not just replace the bad wire if you know where it is and thus what's causing the problem?

Don't really care that it works, I just want the locks and windows working. I have the schematics but my issue is they don't show what the connectors look like. I hate wiring diagrams lol

My lighter kept blowing that fuse, so I just unplugged it from behind and all was good. It's the socket not the lighter insert that shorts out. I later replaced with a good one and no more problems. That orange wire is always hot so it needs to be insulated if left unconnected. You do have to remove the gauge bezel to get to it

The orange wire going to it melted and the insulation is trashed so I need to snip/disconnect it at its power source or junction with the orange wire for the locks and windows.

Re: Need help locating a connector/junction under or behind the dash

Ok so after referring to my service manual, I see what I should be looking for, but have no idea what it looks like or where it's located under/behind the dash. Here's the schematics. All the orange wires from the various components on the accessory 20 amp fuse merge into one orange wire, shown on the diagram. I need to find this junction so I can cut out the wire for the cig lighter... Any help would be appreciated.

The junction I'm trying to find is S203 on the diagram.

Re: Need help locating a connector/junction under or behind the dash

I couple of years back I replaced the dash assembly in the 88 vert I have and had issues with the windows and locks. If I recall correctly, I chased down this junction and fixed te problems I had. (no power to windows or locks) There is a panel mounted to the inside kick panel under the dash up and behind the fuse box. You will see wires connected to it. There were orange wires connecting to it that ran into the harness and to the fuse block. This might be what you were lookin for. It may be as simple as disconecting the specific hot wire from this block.
