Some 7730 ECM questions

I am in the finishing stages of wiring in a swap to a non computer car and am unsure of a few things even after looking at multiple wiring diagrams so I could use a little help. I used a factory wiring harness and have adapted it.
1. Does the Green/White wire that the diagrams say goes to the cooling fan provide the 12V to turn on the relay, or does it provide a path for the ground?
2. My brown/white wire coming off of E7 goes directly to the diagnostic connector and does not branch off. All of the wiring diagrams I see show this as being the path to ground for the SES light. Is there another possible wire that could have been the original connection for the SES light? There are no other brown/white wires. Can I just branch a wire off of the E7 one going to the connector and send it to the light?
Thanks
Roy
