could it be my spark plug wires?

I got a 89 2.8l camaro and when a while back it was running bad so I gapped my plugs and afterwards it just started running worse and if I come to a light or something and put it in neutral or hold the clutch in than it will die unless I rev it up and now I can't even drive it sown the road. It has no power at all. If I put the pedal to the floor it doesn't even rev up when driving but it'll rev up when its just sitting, I thought it could be my timing but my friend doesn't think it could be the timing cuz how could the timing just be out of wack if it wasn't before? So he says it could be the wires cuz one of them was shocking him. Im just out of solutions and I have no idea what to do now. If anyone has any ideas about what's wrong, let me know

If you are getting shocked by a wire than you should replace all of them. Also while your doing a tune up replace the cap, rotor, and plugs. Also it would not hurt to go a head and check the timing and make sure its still at 10* BTDC

You need a timing light to set the timing properly. I don't care who you are, you cannot set the timing correctly just by ear. Good enough to right good yes, but not properly.

I agree with the timing light to set the timing. there are some guys were I work that say they can set the timing by ear. I will tell them to let me check it with my light and it is always way off-don't forget to plug the vacuum advance.

Yes I know you have to use a timing light, that's why I used one. The timing for my car is supposed to be set at 10* but it wont run at that setting so we had to put it at 18 or 20*and and it runs better than it ever has. The day I bought it, it didn't even run this good. But I think its still misfiring.
