i have an 87 irocz that tries to start when i turn the key to the run position, car starts but starter stays on so i have to shut it off. the car ran fine 6 months ago, i have put in some new gauges and started putting interior back in since the last time it ran ok. some weird stuff going on with electronics too, tach buried and stayed w/o car running, antenna tries to go up continously if i plug in accesory fuse, the green wire going to the temp sender has power coming thru it too? put in a new ignition switch which did not fix problem. tried a different starter before i figured out the problem is before the starter. is there a relay between the ignition switch and the starter that i'm not seeing? any thoughts?

You adjust the ign switch mount position on the column? Sounds like the rod might be sticking in a bit too far at the key run position, and engaging switch start position. Same with key Acc engaging switch run.

You mean when you turn key to the start position Originally Posted by blue75roc87

or as soon as key is turned from the off position?
it was when i turned the key to the run position right before you get spring pressure on the key.
....but i got it figured out, finally...
when i put the carpet back in the car i had to unhook the wires going to the mega shifter, when i hooked them back up i got them mixed up on the wrong terminals.
put them on the correct terminals and it works fine now. thanks.
