My '92 Speedometer is not working but all other dash guages do. A little help please?

Hey guys. The Speedometer in my 1992 Camaro is not working, but all other dash guages do. The speedometer is not mechanical, could I have little help please? I really need this to be working. I don't need any tickets haha.

P.S.
I think there is a short in a wire somewhere, because it started working the other day after I nailed it, then a few days later it wasn't working, and it was going back and forth between what I was doing and 0, then it would go down a little and wobble between 30&35mph, and then it got steady at what I was actually doing.

I would first check for power on your speed buffer pin H hot when engine started. Than check your buffer ground pin A. if those check out of hook up your multimeter to the purple and yellow leads of the vss and have it on ac setting and drive the car to see if you are getting a signal from the vss.

man. Car electonics are so foreign to me. I'm going to have to get something better than a Haynes manual (which so far as I can tell is completely useless).

My shop manual shows that cars with cruise have a signal sent from the transmission to the ECM, then from there a converted signal separately to dash cluster and to cruise control - if you have cruise test to see if it works - if it sets and holds then your tranny sender is functioning as the signal is getting to the ECM then to cruise, at least that narrows it down. My 92 had same issue, turned out to be a fried circuit board, still trying to find a usable replacement board as this si easy to replace and comes out from bottom front of cluster.

Mine have the same problem. It just died on me a couple days ago. I took out the entire instrument cluster but I guess I have to take the entire car to an electrical specialist.

I had the same issue a couple years ago -driving down the street all ok, then looked down and no speedo. If you pull the trim surround but leave the cluster in place you should be able to see where there is a small circuit board at bottom of cluster, kind of underneath with a small opening maybe about 1/2" to 3/4" wide - if you have a small needle nose or a medical clamp you can grab the end of it carefully and pull out - it will be tight. There is a good chance this is your problem and this piece is bad - I could not find anyone anywhere who would repair one of these. I fortunatley had another cluster from a parts car, had the same board, so I swapped it out and that fixed it.

No - that is for the tach and is on the back of the cluster. The one I am referring to is pretty small and can be pulled out from the bottom of the cluster on front side so you do not have to remove the entire cluster, just the trim surround and the lens.
