dreaded blinkers
Here's the deal:
Headlight switch off (down) = Flasher works on Left/Right signal outside, but light is very dim. AND, if I look closely on the side that isn't on I can see a dim flash.
Parking/running lights ON, headlights off = Flasher doesn't work, no turn signals. Dash indicator (green turn signal arrows) don't work as well.
Headlights + running lights on (switch up) = Flasher doesn't work, no turn signals and dash indicator lights are BOTH on. So I have two green, solid arrows at all times.
Any clues? I've been looking at the haynes manual and it has a detailed diagram for 1990-92, but not for my car. In fact, I haven't found anything even related to turn signals for my car's year.
Car is a 1984 trans am.
Any help on where to start is appreciated. I'm thinking the headlight switch is a good place to start? I'm taking the dash out tomorrow.

Re: dreaded blinkers
I should note that i changed both flashers next to the blue box.
Danile son do you fogs work? i am wondering cause i think my fog light switch is bad and my front side running lights do not work. they might be linked some how.

Re: dreaded blinkers
Yellow (orange?) parking lights next to head lights work. My car doesn't have fog lights.
I haven't found any good diagrams for my year yet. After poking around here on the forums I've found that there is supposedly a cluster of relays piggy backing on the ECM on the passenger side. Right before this began I replaced my heater core on my passenger side (in October.. been a while since I've used the car) and I think I may of screwed something up over there.
Hopefully I find something tomorrow.
Anyone have any better places for diagrams? The haynes manual I have doesn't have anything about the turn signal circuit and barely anything about what is behind my dash outside of the gauges.
Thanks

Re: dreaded blinkers
I got my blinker fixed about 2 weeks ago. Meant to post on here but forgot. Just got an email and it reminded me.
Tore out my dash and checked all the wires. Nothing was wrong. I swapped my old mechanical flasher for an electronic one, and realized it was now not showing any lights at all on my dash, although I heard a "click"
I then checked my bulbs again. Come to find out, when I removed my drivers side turn signal bulb, all of my other blinkers worked. So after removing my entire dash and screwing around with diagrams and wires over the span of a weekend, I realized it was something with that area.
I sprayed some electric cleaner, and that didn't fix the problem. Swapped bulbs. Still didn't fix it. I looked inside the actual bulb socket to discover that one of the two metal connector prongs had been bent down. I pulled it up with my finger and cleaned it some more, reinstalled all of the bulbs and wollah! No more blinker issue.
If any of your connectors are messed up, the circuit won't complete and it will screw up everything. Someone had mentioned this before, but I didn't realize how such a small problem could become such a PITA.
So, I'd check your sockets first. Try removing each bulb one by one, and testing.
Oh and stay away from electronic flashers. I ended up going back to my old yellow can because the newer one was screwing up
