Wiring radiator fan...[noob]
I made this image to make my life easier because I'm a noob when it comes to electrical things

1.) Where is the ECM located?
2.) What is a fusible link? In my chilton manual it says "fusible link H RUST"....don't know what the H RUST stands for. Couldn't find a image
3.) What is a generator and where is it located? I have a 85 camaro but a 87 camaro engine.
My current fan has a toggle switch that doesn't work anymore. Hooking up a new switch doesn't work either. Something with the wire is messed up.
edit: Wanna add that my fan does work because I tried adding 12 volts and it spun...

Not sure where the ECM is physically located (new to the F-bodies)
Fusable link is a Wire-Fuse, there are several in each car, located in various locations in the wiring harness. They melt during over-current situations to protect from fires, etc. They look like a piece of heat shrink in the middle of a wire, possibly slightly larger or smaller than the rest of the wire. Not sure of the H RUST designation.
The Generator refers to the Alternator.
Here's a full wiring diagram set for your car, hopefully it may shine a bit more light on it.

87 5.7 TPI: (This is probably the same as your chiltons)

Re: Wiring radiator fan...[noob]
The orange wire needs to be a constant 12v source with ignition on or off preferably. The brown wire that is 12v whenever the ignition is in the on position. the green wire to your ecu is a ground. The green wire only gets grounded by the ecu when the fan needs to come on. You can run this wire to your manual switch as a grounding switch or you can run it to a coolant temp sensor to ground it when the coolant reaches operating temperature.

ECM is under the dash on the passenger side. Rust is referring to the color of the fusible link wire.

Re: Wiring radiator fan...[noob]
Okay i have 2 wires coming from my fan. One is a ground to the body. The other is not connected anywhere. Just has a ring terminal on it. And when i put the ring terminal on the positive side of the battery it turns on. But obviously i cant do this because my fan will jist stay on...
Other then hooking it correctly with a relay (which i will do when someone shows me) is there anything i can do to turn the fan on when i am driving? Like could i hook it to the alternator?

Re: Wiring radiator fan...[noob]
Yank the relay and wiring out of a JY vehicle. The later ones have a better connector going into the relay. Use a 30 amp fuse if you don't have the fusible link. The relay needs constant hot through the fuse/link, pull it right off the always hot starter terminal. The relay also needs a hot in run only connection. You might have to probe around, but yours should have had the original fan relay near the booster (might still be there). Don't worry about tying into the ECM, use a temp switch that goes into the right cylinder head or an aftermarket switch that attaches to the radiator (most are adjustable. The other larger wire from the relay goes to the fan. The conductor from the fan with the ring terminal SHOULD be it's ground. Connect it to a chassis point.
The relay passes power to the fan when the sender wire (to switch) is grounded. If you have AC you may need the AC pressure switch, which can also be connected to the sender wire along with the switch (so either can ground and engage the fan). Yours should have had all of this at one time.
