Depends on the module in the car,If it is a 88999196 it will work on engines LH0,LB9 and L98. If you have a 88999158 it works with the LO3 engine only.

First up 85 TPI is MAF which is completely different to 90-92 MAP TPI setup ( both V8 and V6 used the same '730 computer )
so unless you convert your TPI to MAP you won't be using the 92 MAP computer
and your 350 MAF prom won't work in the later model MAP computer

Re: v6 to 350tpi ecm question

alright so i was thinking that most of the items i want to keep with the car when i swap it are not controled by the ecm so i think i should put the 85 ecm and engine harness in the car seperate from the cars stock harness along with the v8 fuel pump unless there are any more ideas

The 1226870 is the worst ecm fro tpi, You might consider reworking the 85 harness to a 1227165 or go to the 1227730 sd.

Re: v6 to 350tpi ecm question

You can make the V6 harness work with the V8 with some modifications, and you wouldn't need to swap over half of the donor car to do it. One of the problems with the swap would be that the dash harness in the later model won't have a connector required by the 85's engine harness (C221). You can buy a MEMCAL for the V6 car's 730 ECM for your engine, and just take the chip out and swap over a chip you have burned/had burned with your custom tune (your existing PROM won't work in the MEMCAL, and you can also delete the VATS that will be in the 91's chip). It's much easier to use the existing MAP/SD system than to convert the car over to the MAF harness. And yes, of course, you will need to put in the V8 fuel pump.

Re: v6 to 350tpi ecm question

so what you are saying is that if i use the v6 wireing and ecm that i can cut the v6 harness to switch 6 injectors for 8 and reprogram the v6 to v8 ecm

Re: v6 to 350tpi ecm question

im assuming that there was a production tpi map 5.7 that i can just use the chip from that

Re: v6 to 350tpi ecm question

Basically, all you need to do is add 2 injector connectors to the harness, add the knock module to the harness (V6 uses a different system for the knock sensor) and add a vacuum line to the intake on the V8 for the MAP sensor. The TPI and multi-port injection are essentially the same system (which is why the TPI cars in 90-92 also used the 730 ECM), and they fire off one bank of injectors at a time (1-3 on the V6 and 1-7 on the V8 at the same time, and 2-6 on the 6 and 2-8 on the V8 at the same time). The rest of the running gear is pretty much the same, but you would need to replace a couple of sensors/sensor connectors and a couple of other things because the wiring connectors are different between the 2 (specifically, the TPS and IAC on the throttle body and the EGR valve). And yes, you would need the MEMCAL from a V8 car as the V6 uses a different setup for the knock sensing (that isn't in the V8 MEMCAL).
