My first camaro......looks like it might be a wire nightmare
Hey everyone. I just bought my first camaro. It is a 84 z28 t-top 5 speed. The owner said that he paid a guy 2k to take the motor out of a salvaged title 87 z28 to replace the stock 84 305 that had blown. Well i bought the complete car for 800 bucks. I am looking at this wiring under the passenger dash and under the hood and I am seeing duct tape and multiple pin connectors with all but one wire clipped off and I am starting to get the idea that this is going to be a nightmare. The car was said to have run great before some of the wires began to come undone. Any words of advice as I am not familiar with wiring onky the mechanics of the engine. Is that swap that difficult as far as wiring goes? The car has the 87 ecm in it. Any help or advice aside from the obvious " look at the diagram". Thanks everyone. I look forward to being part of the camaro community.

One question first. What do you have for intake/injection? From a Z28 I would think TPI. Do you have Carb, TBI or TPI?

If they have cut and spliced wires at the computer under the dash then I would suspect that they did not replace the original harness with one from the TPI car. I would think they cut and spliced wires instead of repinning to go to the TPI. That works but obviously not the best way of doing it.
What was the original engine in the car? I do not remember the correct digit in the VIN but that is how you want to check. We will know if it was V6 or CFI or carb etc. Then someone should be able to help for repinning or if it was me I would look for an 87 to 89? TPI harness and replace the whole harness with the right one.
