oil pressure gaga not working

Hell I was working on the pannel lights and forgot to disconnect the battery when I was reinstalling the oil pressure gage it sparked and was smoking. After putting back gage pannel together I started the car and notice the oil pressure gage not working.
I notice when I disconnect the battery and connect in back and turn the ingnition switch the oil pressure gage jumps and falls to zero.
Where do I start to check the system and what tools will I need.

You might have damaged it so let’s find out.

Disconnect the wire from the sender on the engine and connect a 47Ω resistor to the wire.

Connect the other end of the resistor to ground.

(The oil gage sender is located in the lower left side of the engine.

It should have a
tan wire going to it.)

Don’t start the engine but with the key in the RUN position if the gage reads about half way the gage is good.

That would mean the problem is the sensor.

Your response will indicate the tools required.
