Rear Latch questions?

I have been a member for quite some time but I usually just skim threads to gather info... Im kinda lost on this, so help would be greatly appreciated. The rear latch pull down is on rails and moves up and down correct? The problem I have is I grabbed one from another camaro and its current position needs to be higher to latch on my trunk. I cannot find any good diagrams on the system anywhere. I figured that the motors polarity was just flopped to move it either up or down. I did this manually by applying a 12 volt source and a ground the motor spins but no movement of the arm. Is it stripped? Are both the worm gear and the pinion metal? I believe it is wired correctly, if I hit the switch on the latch it will run (with no movement in position) should it automatically move back to its upmost position when the switch is not engaged on the latch?? Anybody that can answer some if not all these questions or has a schematic would be saving me a lot of pain.

Thanks,
Jerome

Re: Rear Latch questions?

Yes the latch moves up and down on the rails. When you hit the release switch the latch should ride up until you go to close the hatch. After you close the hatch the latch should then ride down the rails until the hatch is tight.

If the motor is rotating but the latch is not moving you may have damaged the unit during removal or installation.

A member here, lonsal, is the owner of top down solutions which sells repair parts for these things. Here's a good write up he did on how it all works. Hope this helps.

Re: Rear Latch questions?

Yeah let us know how you make out. Sounds like the plastic gear is broken or maybe the plastic housing.
