So I bought an 89 Iroc-Z about a month ago and had to replace the starter. There is a wire hanging down and when power is put to it the dual fans start up which would explain why they werent working. I was just wondering if anyone knows where that wire goes. I read somewhere it may be the wire that goes above the starter under the engine block but I have no idea.

Its a black wire. Its hanging in front of the starter and has some sort of red tip and looks at if it was just ripped off of something.

 

I have the exact same issue, haven't traced it yet. I have a single fan but it's on a toggle
