Gas Guage not working right
My 87 camaro has a problem with the gas gauge. It used to work fine and then one day it started only going up to 1/4 when I filled it up. From the 1/4 mark it would slowly go down to empty. Well yesterday it stop moving above the empty mark and I ran out of gas. I really need to get this fixed and don't know where to start. Also my oil gauge doesn't work and my temp gauge is starting to mess up also. Any advise would be helpful. p.s. I installed an after market oil gauge to be safe to don't worry about me running out of oil.

Here’s how to test the fuel gage.
Remove the sender wire going to the gage.
Tape the bare end of the sender wire and put it aside.
Use a potentiometer with a value of 100Ω or the closest you can find.
Connect one end the potentiometer to the gage from the location you removed the sender.
Connect the wiper of the potentiometer to ground.
Turn the key to RUN.
Slowly adjust the potentiometer from 0Ω to 90Ω.
If the gage is bad it will exhibit the problem you have.
If the gage is good it will display a smooth transition from one end of it’s range to the other.
Therefore the problem is with the sender.
You can use a loose potentiometer, or you can throw together a quick little panel like this one.

Re: Gas Guage not working right
Since you have issues with a few gauges, sounds like you have some bad connections at the connectors that plug into the back of the insturment cluster. I had issues with my gauges so I took apart the cluster and cleaned every contact on the printed circuit board including bulb contacts. Also cleaned the contacts on the connectors behind the cluster and put everything back together and all worked the way it should. Havent had a problem since. For the fuel gauge, I would make sure that the connections are good at the plug under the rear of the car above the axle. Oil pressure gauge might be as simple as the sending unit on the engine.
