Speedo question

I have a 1986 trans am, PO gutted the car for a racer. I brought it back to life as a street car, but the 700r4 that is in it, is from 82-85, mechanical cable driven speedo. I still have the 1986 T/A electronic cluster in it. Is there any way to get that stock speedo to work with an older 700r4? I thought about changing out cluster to a 82-85, but the gauge locations aren't the same. There NO computer components left in the car.

Any suggestions?
thanks, Rich

Re: Speedo question

You just need to install the proper (electric) VSS in place of the cable type that's installed right now. It will look like this:

FYI,.... There are 2 types of electric Speedo sensors that are for 84-89 electric clusters.

1 = 34-39 tooth Speedo gear

2 = 40-45 tooth Speedo gear

The sensor you will need for an accurate speedo will depend on your current rear end gear ratio.

If you removed the ECM harness from the car than you might also need to add a ground wire for the VSS Buffer. See this thread for more info:
