firing problems
I got a 400sbc in my 89 firebird my rotor in the distributor was broken some how so I took the cap off but to do that I had to turn it to get to the back screw.
now I have replaced the rotor and put the cap back on and cant get it to start I turn it little by little cranking hoping it will start but it don't and no id didn't put it together wrong the stuff only goes together one way so why is it doing this the cables and plugs are good and is getting fuel you can really smell it.
I just had it running the other day and I know I didn't turn it 180 while the cap was off it can only turn about 70 deg before it hits the fire wall or my intake

Re: firing problems
Couple of things,
Are you still using EST in your car? If so have you unplugged the connector by the HVAC blower motor to set initial timing?
Do you have a friend who can crank the car for you while you hold the timing light to adjust timing while cranking the car?
Remember, counter clockwise to advance timing, clockwise to retard.
Does the car "act" like it wants to start at all? IE sputter, etc...
