Temp Gauge and Gas Gauge not working
Temp Gauge and Gas Gauge not working
I just replaced the OEM dash bulbs to some fancy blue led bulbs, however I did remove the gas and temp gauges and by mistake I screwed up the gauges both of them, pretty much what I did was to touch too much their neddles and they went hey wire, any idea about how to fix them up?
Re: Temp Gauge and Gas Gauge not working
Are you sure the gauges are messed up? The instrument cluster is sometimes sensitive to intermittent connection due to age. One place is where the bulbs and and gauges contact the flex circuit (common on the bulbs not lighting, less common for the gauges but check the connection prongs). I just replaced my flex circuit to fix bulbs not lighting. When I put the instrument cluster back in, they were still intermittent when I pushed the instrument cluster into the two wire harness connectors in the dash. On my car it appears the plastic inside where the instrument cluster sits has tended to warp with age so those two wire harness connectors don't sit out (towards the driver) far enough and make intermittent contact. I had to shim those two big wire harness connectors so they set towards the driver a little bit. I also put a shim under the flex circuit tabs where those connectors seat in the instrument cluster to make tighter contact.
If all else fails, get a used cluster from a pull a part yard and swap the gauges over to your cluster if you don't want to swap the whole cluster. Make sure the clusters are the same. For example, the 90 to 92 uses two different Oil gauges. One has numbers, the other just has L and H. They seem to use different oil pressure sending units on the oil filter.
Hope this helps...

Re: Temp Gauge and Gas Gauge not working
Thank you bro I appreciate it a lot! It actually sounds like a very good idea, I will pull it out and shim the connectors on the dash.
I really need to make miracles down here in Costa Rica there's just a few of us with Camaros and we don't really find all the parts that we want most of the parts I can get is just through ebay but let me try to fix the gauges this comin' weekend and I will let you know how it goes.
