92 camaro vss removal possible?
Hello,
I just purchased a 92 camaro rs with a 305 tbi. Car sat for a few years finally got the engine running a few days ago. While revving it in park i noticed the speedometer pin all the way to the right to the maximum speed on the speedometer then smoke started coming from the center console and knee panel areas. Electrical burning smell. I believe the vss buffer module may have burned. My question is can the vss buffer module be removed and a standard autometer gauge and cable be installed or are these cars dependent on the vss module and i would need to use an electric speedometer. My plans are to eventually replace all the guages with aftermarket autometer gauges but dont know if i should replace the vss buffer or not.
Thanks for your input

Need 4 Speed . . . . . . . . . Sensor
If you don’t have or don’t use the Cruise Control you can get away without the buffer.
There are too many to mention types of speedometers to choose from.
Some run using the existing VSS, some use a replacement VSS, some are mechanical.
Just tell your parts supplier you need a speedo for a non-buffer car.

Thanks for the advice. I ordered a new vss buffer and hopefully that will fix my speedometer problem. I would eventually like to upgrade to all autometer gauges in the dash but that won't be for a long time.
