It would all depend on how much you/the installer can find parts for and what someone is going to charge for a labor rate. You would have to call around and price shop. Do you know anyone who works on cars?

I've got the complete setup for power locks/windows and a great instruction print out. I think it has all the components plus the full harness and switches.

Yeah- I wouldn't trust any random person working on cars to wire and convert electronics, its too specialized.

If you are converting may I suggest a 4th gen bcm as part of the wiring upgrade. It has a better door lock relay, retained accessory power for the windows and radio, a gm factory alarm, and controlled interior courtesy lights.

Yes you may suggest that- tell me more because i'm not touching any wiring in this car. Whomever installs the changes at some custom shop is going to have to do these things. How does this affect everything else in regards to the wiring and how involved is it? What exactly will I need to pick up

Re: Converting Doors and Windows from Manual to Power

You will need a 4th gen body control module from a 4th gen car, preferably 01-02. Also you will need the key from that car (or you will have to do a VATS bypass on the bcm, it is not difficult, just lengthy. You will also need the key fob from that car, or you will have to program one to it. I have a detailed outline of everything in my thread... "interior swap so to speak" Also check out the link that I provided there (to the fiero website), the guide is pretty neat. One last thing you will want to check out is the 2002 owners manual for the firebird, if you type that into google, you should get it. Go to the section on features and controls (section 2) and it will show you the different things that are possible with the bcm.

Re: Converting Doors and Windows from Manual to Power

I don't know that there is anyone I trust to do anything that involved. Lengthy=expensive in the land of custom labor. Is there any reason why this needs to be done. I can see its worth it if i'm doing the work myself, but it seems pretty expensive to have someone else do. If I don't do that, are there problems I can run into that i need to be aware of?

Re: Converting Doors and Windows from Manual to Power

It will significantly improve the wiring in the car. The door lock relay that is stock with these cars sucks. It will also improve the hatch wiring. You don't really need much experience with wiring. My suggestion is that if you undertake this, when you get a bcm from a junkyard, get a pigtail with it so you can use appropriate size wire. It looks very daunting, and that is what kept me from doing it at first.

The reason that I suggest this in the first place is that the dash will have to be taken off to put in the power window/door lock wiring, so while it is off, might as well improve on the stock wiring. I will attach something I created when I first read the guide to putting it into the fiero.

Your choice!

If you go this route I can provide you with some assistance if you want.

Definitely appreciate the idea! The Dash will be taken off again next year when I get the KR dash and all the electronics put in. I'll let my conversion guy deal with it when the time comes. At least now I have more information than I did before, thanks!

Here is what the harness looks like. If yours was originally manual you'll have to get harness from a donor car, like one from a junk yard. I would grab one of these along with the BCM set up mentioned and combine them.

Re: Converting Doors and Windows from Manual to Power

Scorp- Already bought the kit from the member above. Seems to have everything thats needed, even the door trim. I just have to find someone to do it who is competent.

BTW- If you can find a 82-84 T/A in any junk yard in Jacksonville, FL i'll give you $20. And that challenge goes to anyone here on this board. I only say that cause:

There aren't any.....
