1984 Pontiac Trans Am (Instrument Cluster Question)
Hey there guys! I am new to ThirdGen.org! Love this site. Quick question. I have an 1984 Pontiac Trans Am. Bought in Boise, Idaho for $2,800. 78,000 original miles. Black and gold trim. Love this car! I noticed that the inside of the instrument cluster is dirty where the Fuel gauge/ oil pressure is. (plastic covers dirty on the inside
) I was wondering how to first remove the instrument cluster and secondly how to clean the inside of plastic so its not dirty anymore??? Also my Speedometer bounces between 0-30 mph but after that its pretty smooth. Is there any way I can fix this as well??? Thanks for any help!

The bouncy speedometer sounds like your speedometer cable is going to me. Had the same problem on my 84 Monty SS.

I used soap and water to clean my plastic cover.
As for the speedo cable, some you can pull out of the sleeve. They need a light oil to work. Disconnect the transmission end, and put oil in the upper end. Spin the cable by hand or slowly with a drill motor to move the oil down.
Or buy a new cable and replace it.
