steering colum connector

in an earlier post i had mentioned my blinkers not working, since then i had traced it back to the harness/connector that comes out of the steering colum and connects to 10 wires that ho into a bundle and out the firewall. long story short the connector is old and brittle now and i am wanting to repalce it or possibly use bullet style wire connectors and connect the wires so my front blinkers work. any ideas?

thanks David.

Re: steering colum connector

So if I read you right the turn signal switch is bad in your column correct? If so, then it is fairly cheap to fix, but a pain to do. The part is around $25 online at rockauto and is the complete harness. To change it out you will need to pull the steering wheel for sure and I believe the turn signal lever too. Then you will need to drop the column, remove the three Phillips head screws and fish the old one out, and then fish the new one in. The fishing in and out part is what really sucks.

I changed mine out when I had to fix my tilt steering bolts that came loose. I had the entire column out and on my work bench and it was still a pain. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Re: steering colum connector

sounds about right, goofy thing the connector is. my blinkers work except for the running light ones, but yes ill go that route, I've dropped the steering column before and it isn't foreign to me. thanks for the reply you guys really help me a lot!
