1991 Firebird Fuse Pump Relay

Hi all,

Searched for quite some time and got conflicting answer. See below pics off my 91 firebird, any idea which one is the fuel pump relay? I know the other one is for the coolant fan relay.

Any help would be super appreciated. Thanks - Anil

Look for the harness that has a red wire with a black connector sticking out. That'd be the harness for the fuel pump relay.

If you can't find it, just switch relays and see if it works.

Looking at the wire colors, I'm willing to bet its the relay to the left if you're facing the windsheild.

Re: 1991 Firebird Fuse Pump Relay

Hi firechicken1992,

Appreciate you taking the time to get back to me.

If you look at the third picture down, you can see the base of the connector to the relay is grey. Is this what you mean by the "connector sticking out" i.e. as its grey its probably the fan relay?

By the one on the left I assume you mean the one thats less black and has 1018 on the cover?

Thanks so much.

Cheers - Anil

One of the relay harnesses has a 4-5" red wire with a single connector on it. That will be the fuel pump relay.

Yes the one with "1018" on it. I can tell from the wires because the coolant fan circuit has a green wire with white striping for the switch circuit of the relay. The larger gauge red wire and the larger gauge black wire with red striping is the actual fan power circuit. So I'm almost positive that the "1018" relay is your fuel pump relay. If you're still unsure, just like TTOP350 said, there will be a single red wire sticking out of the wiring harness leading up to the fuel pump relay.

If you look at the wires coming out of the bottom of the relay, there will be:
A grey wire
An orange wire
A red wire
A dark green wire /w white striping
A black wire /w white striping.
That will be your fuel pump relay.

Do you know what each wire does? I am assuming orange is constant power. Which one is ignition (switched), and which one goes to the fuel pump?
