spedo making loud grinding noise, needle jumps.. dash and running lights off

Hi, i have an 88 camaro with a spedo problem. I was driving to school this morning and then as soon as i made a turn, my spedometer just started making a loud grinding noise. the faster i go, the louder it got. the needle moves all around, ( at 35mph the gauge reads 100 mph)

I think this might be related to my other electronic problem. In the process of replacing a old aftermarket radio with a new one when all of a sudden, my dash lights, ac back light, and back tail running lights no longer work. Replaced all the fuses and no luck, no broken ones either.

ugh! what should I check out?

Thanks,

Ben

You speedo head is mechanical, so your problems should be unrelated. The following link should be helpful where the speedo is concerned:

so ive fixed my electrical issue.. the brake light fuse was out. However I still have the spedometer issue.

It only makes the noise when the interior is really cold from sitting overnight outside. Once the interior warms up, the noise stops and functions normally.. A friend told me it could be the gears slipping in the cold weather.. has anyone else had this issue?

The 20+ year-old lube in the cable is probably the culprit. I'd clean and relube (as I detail in the link above).
