The right tail lights (Pontiac)

Maybe someone has done a thread on this before, and if they have please point me to it.

I have one main problem with the selection of Firebirds in my area. All the ones I can afford are exactly that: FIREBIRDS. Now, given my endgame goal (LSX swap), I wouldn't really care about starting with a V-6 car, except the blasted tail lights. I HATE the Firebird ones (you know, the ones with the amber bar at the bottom). I LOVE the T/A ones though. Is there a proper way to switch from the ones I hate to the ones I love?

Please note
"You're better off buying a different car" is meaningless to me. I'll make that decision when I come to it. I want to know what is involved in making the switch. I don't know if that happens a lot here, but it does on other forums, and it really gets in the way of learning.

My enclosed photos will tell you all you need to know . Yes , it's more than possible , it's relatively easy , and only involves a bit of wiring to accomodate the somewhat different lights that belong in each housing .

Honestly I can't think of any links but a search may turn some up . Thing is , when you have both sets of housings in front of you , you'll see whats needed and it isn't much , I think I only had to change one socket on each side , splicing a replacement socket's wires to the wires that had been going to the socket that fit the newer style housings but not the older style that we like .

BTW , I agree 100% that the older style are the ones that look right on these cars , the classic Firebird taillight look , VS the newer style that look like they came off the back of a school bus . That's why I was happy to get a great deal on the set of older style housings , to get rid of the ugly orange turnsignals that look like crap back there ....

You can make the base model firebird lights look good.

Re: The right tail lights (Pontiac)

And with the sequentials yes they do look good , except of course for the fact that the yellow sections are still there , but non functional , yes ? If there are no yellow turn signal areas in your housings no problem , but if there are ;

Those yellow lights not lighting with the turn signals , but still being present , would earn a safety equipment fail in the vehicle inspection in the State where I live cause it's "punch in the face obvious" that they're not lighting up during the inspection . Changing to the earlier , more "Firebird looking" housings eliminates those yellow lights and the possible questions of why they aren't lighting .

If your area's safety inspection don't mind the non functional yellow lights , then I'll say it not only looks great , also that light up centerpiece totally completes the great look of them . Good work !
