Wrong/no voltage to starter solenoid, help!

1992 firebird w/ 700r4.

Replaced the starter/battery after the car had been sitting for a while and it started right up... I let it run about 10 minutes then turned it off. Now it will not turn over, even 24 hours later.

It seems like I must have a short somewhere but I cannot seem to figure it out.

I test the power side of the starter and get 12V. I test the S on the solenoid and get 0 when the key is turned (where purple wire is connected). If I jump the S on the solenoid to the 12V power connection, the starter spins like it should.

Inside the car I disconnected the NSS. If I test the green wire I get 12V when I try to start the car. If i test the purple wire I get 6V, whether the key is turned "ON", or if the key is turned forward to start the car. This seems very odd. Wouldn't you expect the purple wire to be at 0, and anything else indicates a short? I've also tried shorting the starter relay but it made no difference. I've also tried shorting the purple/green wires on the NSS and it made no difference.

Just looking for any opinions. I know it's not the battery or starter, because if I jump the terminals it's fine. I'm also pretty sure it's not the ignition switch, starter relay, or NSS due to my testing. Since the purple wire has 6V at the NSS and 0 at the starter solenoid, guessing it's shorted/broken somewhere. I guess my main questions is should this be at 0 at the NSS with the key turned to the ON or start position?

I don't think it's VATS because my security light comes on for a second then goes off like it should. One thing I did notice was my BRAKE light comes on whenever I try to start the car... not just turn it on, but try to start it... cant remember if that's normal

Thanks

Could be ‘zero current’ 6 volts from using a digital meter.

Use the lowest priced analogue meter you can find and it will probably show the true voltage which should be 0.

It’s apparent the neutral switch is defective or misaligned.

The switch is adjustable by loosening the screws on the side.
