Help with 1985 Fbird gauges

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to rewire my 85 TransAM gauge connectors into my new 97 gauge cluster and having some big troubles.

I've found most of the wires, but I'm having trouble isolating the wires for the fuel sender, high beam, and illumination wires.

I think I found the illumination wire, but its only putting out 3.5ish volts, does that sound about right?

Also the fuel sender wire, I'm assuming it would be showing resistance of some kind? I found a wire with 0.24Ohm @ 200k on my multimeter, tried putting 5 litres of fuel in the tank but the value didn't change, so it's possible that could be something else...

Does the fuel sender unit always have power, or does the gauge cluster supply the power to the sender?

Also one the subject of electronics, the fuel pump, when the ignition is on does the pcm just run the pump for a few seconds to prime and then shutoff?
And then when the car is running it continually runs?

And how much power doe sit draw, I ran power directly to it to set my AFP regulator and before I could get it to 47psi the battery went dead.(9v)

You will need a pinout of the connectors for both gauges. Iirc, fuel senders will have different ohm ranges...you will need to swap the sender in the tank to the what the 97 gauge wants.

I was under the impressions the ohm ranges were the same until 98?

Thanks for that link, every other link to austinthirdgen always give me an error message.

I think the problem for me is I'm trying to use the wire colours to track, but my car is a right hand drive conversion and they've screwed with the colours.
I can't find a pinout chart for the 85 firebird gauges anywhere though, every other year, just not 85.

You may be okay on the ohm's I didn't read the whole thread but the answer lies somewhere in it.
