I plan on going from 305 tbi t5 to carb 350 t56. It is my understanding that all the gauges run off of the ECM. What will need to be done to make them work? Or at the very least, the speedometer.

Misunderstanding Commanding

NONE of the gages are controlled by the ECM.

What does the Speedometer run off of? It was my understanding that that did, but the tach ran off the distributor.

Possible, some years the vss was part of the ecm I believe. I have a 91 firebird (was 305 tbi) it had a seperate vss. Only wire that went to the ecm was the high speed cut off. Dakota digital box will take care of it if needed. The other gauges will work, they are on the drivers side harness. You will lose the fan control. The computer uses the temp sensor on the passenger side head for that. There are stand alone sensors to take over that responsibility.
