Flasher Select Relay Location 1986 Camaro Base

Hi All,
My turn signals do not work on my 86 Camaro Base. The hazard lights do. I replaced the turn signal flasher unit, and swapped in a new turn signal switch. Neither fixed the problem.

Looking at schematics, I suspect the Flasher Select Relay. I just don't know where to find it physically on the car. Can anyone help out?

Thanks!

Re: Flasher Select Relay Location 1986 Camaro Base

Never heard of "flasher select relay".

The Hazard flasher is the one in the fusebox. The TS flasher is near the "convenience center", which is the sort of tray looking thing that has the ALDL connector on the end of it; but it's kind of up under the dash between that and the steering column. Not fun to track down. They don't go bad much, but like anything else, you just never know. Until you know.

A description of the actual symptoms, and the history, would help point you in the right direction.

Never heard of a Flasher Select Relay either. You must be looking at a Haynes or Chilton manual?

I'm guessing you replaced the wrong flasher (that hazard and turn signal flashers are the same part number).

The hazard flasher is in the in-convenience center.

The turn signal flasher is clipped to the metal dash bracket above the inconvenience center.

Re: Flasher Select Relay Location 1986 Camaro Base

Hi,

I am working off the original Chevrolet Shop Manual, and the schematic for the signal lights: it shows the a "Flasher Select Relay" that chooses between the turn signal flasher and the emergency signal flasher.

The emergency lights work. The turn signal lights do not. I've replaced the turn signal flasher and the turn signal switch.

Based on the Chevy shop manual, the Flasher Select Relay is the next obvious step. I just don't know where it is physically located, even though i can find it on the schematic.

Oh, and I did replace the correct flasher, based on your diagram. It just didn't fix the problem. I can try AllData, but that means an hour round trip to the community college for access. :-(

I believe this is what it looks like:

http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/c...nal+relay,3904

It also appears that this relay was only used on 1985-1986 model years.

Location of the relay? I'm going to guess it's in the Inconvenience Center.

Thanks, Paul! That looks promising: definitely not the standard flasher, but a totally different part. I'll use that picture to check the "in)convenience Center and let you know.

Leave it to me to have one of the oddball years!

I appreciate the help.
