Detect speed

Hello

I installed a parking sensor in my GTA. It works great, but it has to be disabled when running. Since it's really uncomfortable to switch it on/off every time you need, I thought it would be nice to activate it only below a certain speed.

So my question is: what is the easiest way to check the car speed? I mean, does exist a particular wire with a particular voltage/current, or something similar?

thanks!!

Nick , I don't think you'll be able to directly hook your parking sensor up to the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) unless your parking sensor has specific provisions for doing so built into itself . Tell me , does this parking sensor monitor the back of the car so you don't back into anything while parking ? And if so , and if it does not monitor the front of the car , I think you'd be best served by hooking it up to the reverse lights , so that it's active only when in reverse .

Re: Detect speed

hello

im using it for the front. In the back, I have a camera. As for hooking the sensor with the VSS, this might be not directly possible, but Im able to make this kind of circuit oretty easily. I can make the circuits I want.
So my question is also: is there a cable or a signal or something that varies in voltage or current for me to somehow detect the speed?

thanks!!

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) detects the speed. There is a sensor in the transmission's tailshaft that reads revolutions so it should always be pulsing unless the vehicle is not moving. The only way is see this happening is if you used one of the ECM's outputs to trigger a relay that then turned on your device. There are tables in the ECM that allow it to turn something on or off at certain speeds. That would however require you to reprogram the ECM and rewire one of the ECM's outputs. Other than that I don't see anyway of you easily wiring up your device to be "smart." The best solution would again just be to mount a small on/off switch within reach and flip it when needed.
