Picked this car up for 600 bucks. Came with a 350 and some dress up related stuff. No carb, trans, driveshaft, or radiator. Got a 700r4 and a quadrajet from the junk yard. Dropped the 350 and transmission in. Now im looking at the wiring. Its all hacked to hell and strewn all over the engine compartment. Some clips missing, some splices and cuts. Whoever did this left a real mess. From what research i've done, the ECM wiring on the pass. side is pretty much useless when using a plain ol' carb. I hung that over the fender out of the way. Now im left with this harness on the driver's side firewall and i have no idea where to start. Some things look familiar, leads for the starter and whatnot. But what about gauges and the rest of the car? I don't know any of the color codes. On the computer harness, just past one of the big plugs that goes into the ECM, there are some wires running up into the dash. I don't know what to do and some help would be nice lol
Go to that site , click on "tech articles" on the left in the main menu , and about halfway down the list of tech articles will be "wiring diagrams" . Click on that , choose your color , and then the full list of the diagrams by year will appear .
Good Luck with the rebuild , looks like you'll have a fine , fun car when your done .
If you attempt to locate a replacement ENGINE harness be sure that you find one from an 82 or 83. The 82-83 cars used a wiper motor that is not compatible with 84+ systems,... and the wiper wiring is in the ENGINE harness.
Here is the wiring schematic for the 1982-1983 C100 plug ( Engine to dash connector, drivers side firewall )
Check out the pic I "attached".... it shows some labels on the plugs to the picture that you posted and should help you get started.
P.S. Looks like only 1 of your Starter Wires does have a Fusible link, ( I didn't see it when I wrote the labels ! ) You should BE SURE to install a good fusible link to each of the heavy power wires that are connected to the starter.
Ahh man, thats awesome thank you very much. I was told Its an 84' Berlinetta. I guess i never looked at the title yet lol. That thing with the condenser looking part is for the tach then? Ill be sure to put in some fusible links. This helps alot. Also, it looks like the wiper motor wiring comes out of the c100 plug. What still stumps me is that bit of harness running up into the dash from the ecm wiring where the computer plugs in. I hope that doesn't do anything improtant.. unless its part of this harness running out the driverside
Ya' That white wire leading to the 'canister thing' is the Tachometer wire. The canister thing is a Tach filter, be sure to screw that to the firewall ( I THINK it gets grounded when bolted down ?? ) and connect the other end to the distributor cap TACH terminal.
Yup, wiper wiring is on the ENGINE side of C100 in 82-87 and got moved to the HEADLIGHT side of C100 in 88. The Wiper system is what makes the 82-83 Engine harness specific,..... The Wiper Motor in your car is specific to the 82-83 Thirdgens, but I'm pretty sure it's a hold-over from the second gen cars so a 81 wiper motor *might* be compatible.
The Dash-to-ECM harness connector on the pass side (C207) is probably not going to be needed for anything. Some early cars had the reverse lights running thru that harness but I think you will be OK leaving it as is. You can find the wiring pin-out for that C207 connector on your 82-83 car here:
It has a non electronic torque converter and transmission. I think its a 700r4 i might be wrong though. It came out of a conversion van and from what i saw, it wasn't original in the van either (they cut into the cross member so it would clear the pan). Theres a 2 pin plug on the side I assume is for backup lights, no other plugs that i could find.
Oh my god lol i cant believe i missed that. alright ill look into it. figuring out the other wiring as we speak. ill post up on this thread some more if i have anymore issues
