sorry, i've been off and on working on this 86 TA, 5sp with tilt wheel for a long time. i get disgusted and start work on a different project but now i'm back to the TA..... here's my question. i do not have the original ignition switch and i'm trying to get the correct switch for my TA.

the actuating rod going down the steering column points directly UP at the end. it's and L like a hex key. the switch that supposedly fits my application LOOKS like the actuating rod fits into the side but that is impossible. what am i missing? you see the black part on the bottom? i THINK that my rod goes in there but i can't see how that is going to work. on the side of the switch there is an area where the actuator rod can attach but mine sticks straight up and won't go in there.

That's an automatic trans ign switch... FWIW.

The rod slips in the side facing the bench in the second thumbnail.

 

that's what i thought but that's the one that the auto parts store computer says, fits.... so the one i'm looking for doesn't have that black piece on the bottom, right? they have one of those too but it also has the rod mounting from the side.

 

The large gray piece for the shifter/key interlock cable is the giveaway. Look it up on Rockauto.com and it'll list both auto and 5spd parts with photos.

 

yes, but here's my problem. at rockauto i found:
sounds good until i look at where the actuator rod connects. my actuator rod sticks straight up. i don't see how to get it into the hole in the switch. what am i not seeing?
