Washer pump wont turn off.
Hello to all, my 1983 all of a sudden started pumping windshield wash fluid and didnt turn off until it was unplugged. I changed the pump/wiper box that mounts to the firewall within the last year which has worked flawlessly until now. Besides the point but I just installed aftermarket headers a week or 2 ago and it still worked after that as well. Just mentioning that because I was under the hood around the area of it. I didn't press the lever when it came on, it just started pumping. How can I rule out some of my possible issues, wash button on blinker, short in wiring, etc. I have a column lock theft case around steering column inside of the car and it will be a nightmare to remove if it's the blinker wash button. Any info is appreciated. Randy

Can't offer any suggestions, but I remember my 83 Camaro did the same thing... I'd hit the button and it would run for a LONG time, eventually it always shut off. Never did fix it, car got rear-ended before I got around to solving the problem.

Thanks for the reply. Mine does the same, probably 10 seconds of spray then shuts off. But this time she's not turning off at all. I'm not even pressing the button. I'll be chasing a ghost for a few hours this weekend.

My '86 T/A fits the same thing! At least I think so. The washer fluid reservoir has always been empty. I don't drive the car often and never in a situation where I would need to wash the windshield. I noticed the reservoir looked a little collapsed. I thought it was just bc the car was older and it was warped. I took the cap off and it was under constant suction. I haven't started to need around with it yet, but was going to fill it with water and see what happened. I don't feel like wasting washer fluid if it indeed is constantly "on." I'll test it out on the next few days and check back in.
